The Company: So is Wealthy Affiliate legitimate company? I am unable to find any information about the company. It is Canada based, but I have no confirmation of this or the name it’s registered under. I will continue with the investigation and will update this review with my findings.
The owners and the core members are all known both by names and their real faces. No actors are being used. The owners, Kyle Loudoun and Carson Kim both check out on places such as LinkedIn and there are plenty of interviews available on the web, however neither reveal their last names in public. With some digging the last names revealed themselves and the persons check out. The location of the company is also not known.
Update, after actually posing the question to the owners, I was rewarded with an answer! Here, directly from the horses mouth:
Niche Marketing Inc, located in Canada (BC). We have an A- rating on BBB without getting accredited (paying them money) which is unheard of.
With close to 670,000 people in the last 3 years alone, we have less than 10 complaints total (most of which were accidental). Just to give them some perspective.
I am updating my rating based on this latest piece of information.

The Program: So what is wealthy affiliate university about? WA is a learning platform where you are invited to follow a basic training course, boot camp, to learn the basics about making an income online. The training covers finding your niche, creating a website hosted by WA based on the ever popular WordPress, generating traffic and getting Google indexed. It goes on to talk about how to use pay per click and other type of advertising on your website to generate income. It talks less about how to actually make your own sales.
The program costs $49 per month or $359 with the prepaid yearly membership. This includes access to all the material the website has to offer. However WA has additional services such as Jaazy, Google keywords search tool and domain purchases which come at additional cost.
The platform is full of great content, everything from dealing with the technical issues you encounter, to the online marketing. In fact there is so much information there that going through all of it would take at least a year. These videos are produced both by the WA staff and community members. The topics range from creating the website into content creation, marketing and traffic generation.
For people like me who prefer written content, there are also the blogs of the members you can follow and comment on, unfortunately very little training is available in other than video format. They have a great question and answers any almost any topic imaginable, as every question asked is saved together with it’s answers.
Learning from others success as well as mistakes is one of the most powerful tool that the Internet has to offer and this website has plenty of this going around. Most active users on this community are really helpful and genuinely want to share their experiences with others and are always ready to review and comment on your content.
The Compensation Plan: This looks straight forward at first, but can in fact get very complex. Let me explain you why. First of all, you get compensated for the members you refer to the website, after the purchase the premium plan. If you are a premium member yourself, the monthly compensation is $22.50, $8 for the discounted first month offer, or yearly compensation of $175 depending on the payment plan for each paying member you directly sponsored. If you are not part of the premium plan yourself, your compensations are $4 for special offer referrals, then $11.25 monthly and $87.50 yearly commissions. They claim to have 1 in 8 conversion rate, but in my experience it’s more 1 in 10, still good enough to make it worth while.
But there are other ways to get compensated for being a contributing part of the community and this is where it gets complicated. You can namely be compensated for the training you create. You need to be a member for 2 weeks before you can create a training. Your training needs to get minimum amount of visits, likes and comments. So far none of the trainings I have created has generated me any income, but I keep on trying 🙂
Otherwise the plan offers ranking for the WA members. Why is this important and worth spending time on? Naturally people are attracted to connect and engage with someone who has a higher ranking than themselves. More people following you means more people reading your content, leaving reviews on your website and so on. It also generates competition and people tend to behave in a certain over the top nice way in order to improve their ranking. Honestly is not really appreciated.
The Payouts: Not much to argue about there. The payouts are done on weekly basis and always on time. With all my research I couldn’t find one single person who claims not to have been paid by this website, which in itself is extremely rare as there are always those who either hold a crutch and want to hurt the owners of the website, or trolls who just enjoy, well, trolling!
Unfortunately this website only accepts credit card and Paypal, so it doesn’t have a whole deal of payment processors available, which really is a pity. Nowadays almost everyone uses SolidTrustPay, Neteller, Payeer, GoCoin just to mention few. For the payout the only possibility is Paypal. From my point of view if this platform just accepted Bitcoin it would be perfect 😉
The Support: WA has very good and responsive online support that answers within minutes any time of the day. In fact one of the best ones I have ever run across at such a popular site, as scaling good quality support is a holy grail for many online businesses.
Is it also possible to ask questions from other members via chat or posting on your wall. This all adds to the community feel of WA. A word of warning though, because most of the people are from North America, the culture tends to be a lot of praise and roses and less honest critique, so take all the glowing reviews with a grain of salt and rather concentrate on the few suggestions on improvement.
The Marketing: The wonderful aspect of WA is that the website is full of marketing tools and it also teaches you how to create them yourself. The bootcamp literally teaches you how to create a website to promote WA, which indeed many people start with. The more you dig, the more useful tips you will discover, as the community host many people running a multi-million dollar businesses. The website offers plenty of online training in form of videos and webinars which are all available later on for replay. They also offer discounted first month membership and things such a conference in Las Vegas for their top affiliates.
The Grapevine: It is hard to find someone with really bad things to say about WA. There are hardly any wealthy affiliate university complaints and that is rare for an affiliate program. Instead there are many praising reviews and glowing testimonials.
However not everyone is so overly exited about WA. Some people do not find their feet there, they either don’t pay to become premium members or stop paying after few months. The reasons listed are such as the platform being overwhelming, it is indeed easy to get lost in the wealth of all the content!
For the less computer literate the website creation part is too complex or they are struggling to generate quality content. Others who just came in looking for free money got disappointed with the fact that they actually needed to put in the hours *gasp* in order to generate business and with it income. You also hear complains from countries which have excluded from the list for free membership, including India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Egypt.
My Honest Thoughts: It is not often that I recommend a site which I cannot confirm having a legally registered company behind, but I make an exception with Wealthy Affiliate. I have been a member of Wealthy Affiliate myself for a while and have found them utterly trust worthy and very useful for anyone who is looking for making money online. My advice is to join as a free member and decide for yourself if becoming Premium member is worth it. Take your time to go through the bootcamp and some of the other material. Concentrate on finding your niche, building your website and learning how to generate traffic and income. Be patient, Rome wasn’t built in one day. Building a successful online business will take time and dedication, it will not be a walk in the park, but if you keep it up, there is nothing to stop you from earning big bugs with the tools available on this site. Feel free to friend me, see you there! Enjoy the ride to success like I did 🙂
Update, since I now have confirmation about the registration of the company, I feel even more happy about recommending them to absolutely everyone! Rating: 18/20
